As a long established, highly regarded source of product news and consumer advice, Which? go to great lengths to filter out the companies that you should steer clear of and recommend those whom you can trust. The Hehku brand is built around quality, inspiration and integrity, and therefore we are delighted to be named a Which? Trusted Trader.
When you're contemplating purchasing something from a company you've never heard of, it makes sense to find out as much about that company as you can before you place a deposit. Unfortunately following the recession of recent years many companies in the home improvement sector unexpectedly ceased trading which all too frequently resulted in their clients losing their deposit forever, and in some cases much more than that. It’s important you are confident that your money is safe and that you can be sure the company you’re dealing with is financially capable of honouring their product and service guarantees for their full duration. It’s also important to know that the people you are dealing with on the ground are bona fide as well as the company they are working for.
Fortunately there are some simple checks you can make to ensure that the company you have chosen is safe to use and a few precautionary measures you can take as additional security.
What’s the company story?
Hehku is part of the Alltask Ltd Group (Alltask Ltd T/A Hehku). Alltask Ltd has been trading successfully for over 22 years in the commercial sector and the company remains 100% privately owned by its original founding members to this day. The bedrock of this group is its commitment to best in class service, always placing its clients at the very centre of all decision making. Our company culture and ethos is perfectly positioned to bring this commitment and expertise to life for the domestic sector.
Does the company you are dealing with have a physical location
that you can visit?
At Hehku, you can write to or visit us at Hehku Head Office, Alltask House, Commissioner’s Road, Kent, ME2 4EJ. We have been present at these wholly owned premises since 2001.
What accreditations does the company hold?
Well, at Hehku we are proud to say that we have been awarded the highly coveted Which? Trusted Traders accreditation. As the largest and best known consumer body in the UK, Which? have independently and rigorously audited our company confirming we are who we say we are and that we are financially sound and a host of other stringent checks! To retain this accreditation we are re-audited every 12 months.
Are the people on the ground bona fide and safe?
Every member of the Hehku team from top to bottom has to satisfactorily pass an independent CRB Check (Criminal Reference Bureau Check). In simple terms this check allows Hehku to make safer recruitment decisions ensuring we are only introducing our clients to people suitable for our line of work. The check uncovers convictions, cautions, reprimands and warnings.
Have you run a credit check on the company you propose to use?
This will tell you some key financial statistics about the company you plan to use such as the assets they hold, the cash they have in the bank, do they pay their suppliers, do they have any outstanding county court judgments and who owns the business. You will quickly see and be able to question anything you are unsure of. There are some websites that offer free company credit checking reports, although the
information will be limited, one such website is www.companycheck.- co.uk. At Hehku, we are happy to provide on request a free copy of our complete credit report for you to check.
Are you aware of Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974?
At Hehku we understand that our clients are always happier when they have peace of mind. If you pay for something costing between £100 and £30,000 on credit, your provider is equally liable if something goes wrong. In short, you will get protection for the whole costs of an item or service, even if you only pay for part of it on credit card. So, providing the value of your purchase is between £100 and £30,000, we would always recommend that you pay part of the deposit (at least £100.00) on credit card – extra protection for nothing! ALL OF OUR CUCINA AND ALUMINIUM CUSTOMERS ARE COVERED BY INSURANCE BACKED GUARANTEES ARRANGED THROUGH THE CPA. SO, FROM INITIAL DEPOSIT TO A MAXIMUM OF 10 YEARS, WITH HEHKU YOU HAVE THE ULTIMATE PEACE OF MIND
When looking for a safe, reliable contractor, why take
The CPA has been established since 1993 to assist in the elimination of unscrupulous traders from the home improvement market and to protect the consumer by regulating and raising standards of operation. Only dealing with proven and accredited contractors such as Hehku, the CPA fully vet them for professional competence and integrity which continues throughout the life of their membership. Being regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), the CPA offer a range of services to protect the consumer when purchasing home improvements, and work with Hehku to deliver complete peace of mind from beginning to end, and beyond.
Where only the best will do
Hehku is a company that has met the CPA’s strict criteria, acknowledging our professionalism in our industry, offering the consumer a professional, reliable and ethical service, and proving we have the ability to produce the highest quality of work. We also offer an Insurance Backed Guarantee on our work and include this insurance at no additional cost to you. The CPA is one of the only organisations to continually monitor EVERY member on the levels of their service, products and work carried out and as such, Hehku customers are surveyed after the work has been completed on their homes. A report is produced quarterly by the CPA in order to assist us in maintaining, and where possible improving standards of quality and service. This report is also available on request to Hehku customers in order to give you peace of mind that you are dealing with a reputable company.
Deposit protection - be protected from the word ‘go’
Most trades these days take a deposit before starting a job - this is usual practice. Making sure your deposit is insured is essential, if it is not and the company fails you will lose your money. In light of this, Hehku covers you for a period of up to 90 days from the date you pay your deposit, covering you against any eventuality and protecting your deposit, which would be either refunded to you in full, or the work completed by another company at the balance agreed price.
CPA insurance backed guarantee - protecting your guarantee for
up to 10 years.
Without insurance backing, a company’s guarantee is worthless if they go out of business. When having home improvement works carried out on your property, it is essential to make sure an insurance policy is in place and given to you, by way of business, as part of the overall sale to protect you from unforeseeable circumstances. This is the best form of protection. However, there are many companies that only ‘offer’this service and do not give it, leaving many homeowners believing they are covered when they are not. The guarantee given by Hehku is valid the whole time we are trading and so any defects should be corrected by us. An Insurance Backed Guarantee(IBG) is valuable protection in the unlikely event of the Consumer Protection Association membe ceasing to trade. If, due to the liquidation, receivership, administration or winding up of the business due to bankruptcy, state retirement or death of the principal(s), the company no longer exists, faults appearing after they cease to trade will be covered by the IBG. Depending on the work undertaken, the IBG is available for a period up to 10 years.
