It’s important you are confident that your money is safe and that you can be sure the company you’re dealing with is financially capable of honouring their product and service guarantees for their full duration. It’s also important to know that the people you are dealing with on the ground are bona fide as well as the company they are working for.
Fortunately there are some simple checks you can make to ensure that the company you have chosen is safe to use and a few precautionary measures you can take as additional security.

Have you run a credit check on the company you propose to use?
This will tell you some key financial statistics about the company you plan to use such as the assets they hold, the cash they have in the bank, do they pay their suppliers, do they have any outstanding County Court Judgments and who owns the business. You will quickly see and be able to question anything you are unsure of. There are some websites that offer free company credit checking reports, although the information will be limited, one such website is www.companycheck.co.uk. Are you aware of Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act 1974?
At Hehku we understand that our clients are always happier when they have peace of mind. If you pay for something costing between £100 and £30,000 on credit, your provider is equally liable if something goes wrong. In short, you will get protection for the whole costs of an item or service, even if you only pay for part of it on credit card. So, providing the value of your purchase is between £100 and £30,000, we would always recommend that you pay part of the deposit (at least £100.00) on credit card – extra protection for nothing! Deposit protection - be protected from the word ‘go’
Most trades these days take a deposit before starting a job - this is usual practice. Making sure your deposit is insured is essential, if it is not and the company fails you will lose your money. In light of this, Hehku covers you for a period of up to 90 days from the date you pay your deposit, covering you against any eventuality and protecting your deposit, which would be either refunded to you in full, or the work completed by another company at the balance agreed price.
CPA insurance backed guarantee - protecting your guarantee for up to 10 years.
Without insurance backing, a company’s guarantee is worthless if they go out of business. When having home improvement works carried out on your property, it is essential to make sure an insurance policy is in place and given to you, by way of business, as part of the overall sale to protect you from unforeseeable circumstances. This is the best form of protection. However, there are many companies that only ‘offer’this service and do not give it, leaving many homeowners believing they are covered when they are not. The guarantee given by Hehku is valid the whole time we are trading and so any defects should be corrected by us. An Insurance Backed Guarantee(IBG) is valuable protection in the unlikely event of the Consumer Protection Association membe ceasing to trade. If, due to the liquidation, receivership, administration or winding up of the business due to bankruptcy, state retirement or death of the principal(s), the company no longer exists, faults appearing after they cease to trade will be covered by the IBG. Depending on the work undertaken, the IBG is available for a period up to 10 years.
